Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Treatment Perth | Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine

Fibromyalgia can involve widespread pain, tenderness, fatigue, unrefreshing sleep and difficulty concentrating. Symptoms can fluctuate, and the condition is not a sign that pain is imagined or a personal failure. Our DIGEST framework considers Drive (available energy and warmth), Waterway (heaviness or fluid-like discomfort) and Pressure (tension and sensory load). This complementary pattern view does not replace diagnosis, medication review, pacing, movement or psychological support arranged with your healthcare team.

Widespread load
Pain, sleep and fatigue often interact.
Fluctuating capacity
A sustainable pace may matter more than pushing through.
Individual support
Responses to complementary care differ.

Idea in one picture

Fibromyalgia can affect pain, energy, sleep and concentration at the same time. A gentler day may begin with matching activity to available Drive while reducing heaviness and Pressure.

Usual advice vs what often helps more

DIGEST lensUsual adviceOften more useful
DrivePush through every low-energy dayWhat level of activity is sustainable without a prolonged flare?
WaterwayTreat every ache as identicalDo heaviness, swelling sensations or weather sensitivity alter the pain experience?
PressureFocus on one tender areaHow do stress, sleep and whole-body sensory load affect tension?

60-second self-check

Use these questions to prepare for assessment. This is a screen only, not a diagnosis.

  1. Is pain or tenderness present across several body regions?
  2. Do fatigue, poor sleep or concentration difficulty rise with pain?
  3. Does overactivity tend to be followed by a longer flare?
  4. Which daily activity matters most for a realistic support plan?

New, rapidly changing or unexplained symptoms should be medically reviewed.

Supporting Research

Evidence for acupuncture in fibromyalgia is mixed but often encouraging for selected symptoms, with limited certainty and important differences between studies. Research may measure pain, fatigue, sleep or quality of life, but no single result applies to everyone. Chinese herbal medicine has also been studied as a broad category; preparations and study quality vary, and individual products are not listed here.

Acupuncture and pattern-based care may be considered as supportive options within a broader plan that can include GP care, pacing, suitable movement, sleep support and psychological care when helpful. Individual results vary.
