Our Approach: Treat the System, Not the Symptom

Classical Chinese Medicine — the Classical Chinese Medicine tradition we practise — has been refined for 1,800+ years. Not energy work. Not folk wisdom. A precise, observation-based system for restoring the body’s regulatory mechanisms so health emerges naturally.

1How We Differ

✗ Conventional Approach

Identify the symptom → prescribe a drug or supplement to suppress it → repeat when it returns.

✓ Classical Approach

Identify which regulatory mechanism is disrupted → restore it → the symptom resolves as the body rebalances.

2The Three-Mechanism Framework

Most chronic complaints involve disruption in 1–3 of these

Cardiac Drive

Distributes warmth & energy
  • Strong = warm hands & feet
  • Strong = steady daily energy
  • Weak = cold extremities
  • Weak = fatigue rest can’t fix

Fluid Pathway

Processes & distributes water
  • Clear = regular urination
  • Clear = smooth digestion
  • Stagnant = swelling, sinus
  • Stagnant = fluid retention

Pressure Regulation

Keeps energy distributed
  • Balanced = restful sleep
  • Balanced = calm upper body
  • Disrupted = anxiety, headaches
  • Disrupted = “wired but tired”

3How We Measure Real Recovery

Six daily-observable benchmarks tracked at every visit

Unbreakable rule: if any single one of these gets worse after starting treatment, the formula is wrong and must be changed — not adjusted, not persisted with. Changed.

① Sleep

Fall asleep in 20–30 min, sleep through, wake rested

② Appetite

Natural morning hunger without coffee or stimulants

③ Bowel

One well-formed, complete stool per day, consistent

④ Urination

5–7× daily, clear flow, zero night waking

⑤ Temperature

Hands & feet consistently warm through the day

⑥ Thirst

Calibrated — thirsty when needed, satisfied after drinking

“If even one of the six gets worse, I change the treatment that day. This is the system working exactly as designed.” — Dr. Yang

4How Treatment Works in Practice

1

Map the Pattern

45–60 min consult. Document all 6 standards, pulse, tongue

2

Treat the Mechanism

Acupuncture, herbal formulas, or both

3

Track & Adjust

Review all 6 standards each visit; pivot if any worsens

4

All 6 Green

Treatment complete only when all 6 are stable together

5Where This Approach Excels

Especially for conditions where other treatments have plateaued

Chronic fatigue / “tests normal”
Sleep that doesn’t fix with hygiene
IBS / reflux / bloating
Women’s cycle & fertility
Perimenopause symptoms
Recurring pain patterns
Autoimmune (alongside specialist)
Long COVID / post-viral
Recovery — surgery, illness, birth

6Beyond Recovery: Long-Term Maintenance

Once balance is restored, the work shifts to keeping it that way

Classical preventive principle

Treat before illness arises — track the six gold standards, support seasonal transitions, address subtle drift before it becomes a full pattern.

In practice

Periodic acupuncture (monthly to quarterly), constitutional herbal cycles (seasonal), or annual TCM check-up consultations — depending on each patient’s situation.

Once your six gold standards are stable, classical care moves from active restoration to preventive maintenance — the deepest layer of TCM, often called “treating before illness.”
