Anxiety, Depression & Stress Treatment Perth | Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine

Anxiety, low mood and prolonged stress can affect sleep, concentration, appetite, muscle tension and the ability to manage everyday demands. These experiences have many possible causes and deserve respectful, evidence-based assessment. Our DIGEST framework considers Drive (activation and energy), Waterway (heaviness or a slowed feeling) and Pressure (mental and physical tension). It is a complementary pattern lens only. It does not diagnose a mental-health condition or replace a GP, psychologist, psychiatrist, counselling or prescribed treatment.

Activation
Some people feel wired, restless or unable to switch off.
Depletion
Others feel heavy, slowed or exhausted.
Connected care
Support should fit the person’s existing mental-health plan.

Idea in one picture

Respectful mental-health illustration showing high activation, heaviness and tension moving toward a steadier state
A DIGEST lens can organise bodily patterns while mental-health care remains central. The aim is not to erase emotion, but to support a steadier relationship between activation, heaviness and tension.

Usual advice vs what often helps more

DIGEST lensUsual adviceOften more useful
DriveTry harder to relaxDo you feel over-activated, depleted, or different at different times of day?
WaterwayTreat heaviness as lack of motivationHow do sleep, appetite and a slowed bodily feeling affect capacity?
PressureFocus only on thoughtsWhere do tension, breath-holding or restlessness show up physically?

60-second self-check

Use these questions to prepare for a healthcare conversation. This is a screen only, not a diagnosis.

  1. Have worry, low mood or stress been affecting daily function?
  2. Have sleep, appetite, concentration or energy changed at the same time?
  3. Do you feel mostly over-activated, slowed down, or a mixture of both?
  4. What professional and personal supports are already in place?

If symptoms are severe, rapidly worsening or raise immediate safety concerns, seek urgent professional help.

Supporting Research

Evidence for acupuncture as an add-on for anxiety or depressive symptoms is mixed but often encouraging. Study designs, comparison groups and certainty vary, and symptom-score changes do not establish equivalence to psychological therapy or medication. Chinese herbal medicine has also been studied as a broad category, but preparations and evidence quality vary; individual products are not listed here.

Acupuncture and pattern-based care may be considered for some people as supportive additions to usual care, including sleep, coping and bodily tension goals. Medication changes must remain with the prescribing clinician. Individual results vary.

Educational only. Not a claim of cure or a guarantee of mood change.
